Bruny Island Community Library

History

The Bruny Island Community Library is a community driven activity, managed and conducted by volunteers.
Library services began following the official opening held on Saturday 27th August 2005

Main funding sources were the Tasmanian Community Fund, Kingborough Council, Bruny Island Cork Club, Bruny Island Com-munity Association, with council also providing assistance by way of concessional treatment for operating expenses; rental of premises etc

The bulk of the material on our shelves has been donated. The Kingborough Council has also been very generous, providing a grant for the purchase of new books.in 2010/2011.

Other donors include the island’s BIRCH group and the Health Library, whose own libraries are now amalgamated with that of our community library

An important element in the early stages was the strong support throughout our community, and we are indebted to all those residents who generously donated and continue to donate part of their personal libraries and so assisting us to maintain this valuable community amenity.
